Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State has lost a Part 2 student from the Department of Linguistics and African Languages, Ayomikun Ajibola.
According to the university, the student died after falling into a cesspool at BVER, one of the private hostels in his student village.
The university’s public relations officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, made the point in a statement Wednesday in Ile-Ife, Osun state.
Olarewaju said the university management “is saddened by this unfortunate incident”.
He said the news immediately reached the school management, that it mobilized the university firefighters and some staff from the OAU teaching hospital, who through concerted efforts , brought out the student.
He said: “As a result, she was immediately taken to OAU University Hospital, where she was certified dead.”
Olarewaju said the Vice Chancellor, Professor Eyitope Ogunbodede, led his management team to the scene, and sympathized with the students and sympathized with the parents of the deceased.
He said: ‘Professor Ogunbodede, who described the incident as tragic and unacceptable, promised to critically examine the circumstances which led to the student’s death and impose appropriate sanctions on those involved. or to anyone found guilty.
“The Vice-Chancellor has therefore appealed to students to remain calm and obey the law as the police, who have been informed, are also investigating.”
