Howard University Student Wins NAACP Image Award for Activism


Channing Hill received the Young Activist of the Year award for her ongoing involvement in social justice at the 2022 NAACP Image Awards ceremony.

The 20-year-old Howard University student helped lead one of the school’s longest protest sit-ins – 34 days – to draw attention to the school’s housing conditions.

Hill joins several young winners of the coveted awards.

Rapper Saweetie was recognized as an Outstanding New Artist for her song “Best Friend” feat. Doja Cat; Danny Boyd Jr., 11, won Outstanding Performance in a Motion Picture for his role in the Halle Berry-directed film “Bruised”; and Miles Brown of “black-ishwon Outstanding Performance by a Young Person (Series, Special, TV Movie or Limited Series).
